Miss Oktoberfest

What’s Miss Oktoberfest about?

Day: Saturday 12 Oktober
Time: from 12 midday
Place: Oktoberfest Tent

Each year we search for Queensland’s ideal ‘Bavarian’ woman, with the lucky winner receiving the coveted title of “Miss Oktoberfest Brisbane 2013”.

How is it judged?

Each of our Miss Oktoberfest candidates will face a number of truly original tests, which are designed to display their abilities to the fullest. We are looking for the ‘Bavarian’ woman who best personifies Miss Oktoberfest’s finest qualities:

Style: Our candidates must wear their traditional dress or ‘dirndl’ with pride
Agility: Our candidates must be strong enough to carry numerous steins
Learning ability: We’ll be teaching our candidates new skills that they must master quickly
Knowledge: Our candidates must read up on all things Oktoberfest and learn from our website

The tasks that each of our Miss Oktoberfest contestants will be asked to complete are top secret and will be revealed in stages. Our esteemed and knowledgeable panel of judges are responsible for selecting the best candidates and the final winner (crowd support has been known to sway even the steeliest of judges, so it’s a good idea to stack the room with as many friends as you can).

What do I get?

All participants in this fun contest receive a thank you present and the finalists receive a German-style Gourmet Goodies basket. The overall winner also receives a glorious sash and the love, respect and admiration of a grateful nation.

How do I enter?

To enter, please register by 12 midday on Saturday 12 October in the German Connections Tent. Good luck and may the bells toll for thee!

The ‘official rules’ bit.

Please note, all contestants must:
– be between the ages of 18 and 35 years
– wear traditional German costume (e.g. a ‘dirndl’ or your own handmade version of a
   dirndl)
– bring photo ID with them to the event
– be at the Oktoberfest Tent by 12pm on the day of the competition
– for safety’s sake we ask that participants do not drink before the competition

Whether you want to compete for this coveted title, or simply want to come along and watch the fun of the competition, this is one Oktoberfest Brisbane event not to be missed.

Bavarian Strongman

Bavarian Strongman
Competition.

Day: Saturday 19 Oktober
Time: from 12 midday
Place: Oktoberfest Tent

Raaaaaaaaaa!

Continuing a very noble and worthy tradition, our
action-packed ‘Bavarian Strongman Competition’
is back for 2013. This year’s competition is proudly sponsored by two of the biggest names in athletics: the King of Cakes German Bakery and the German Sausage Hut. There are exciting (and delicious) prizes to be won, so enter now.

What’s it all about?

Think of it as like an Olympic decathlon, but with five less events, and involving beer steins and sporting equipment that you can actually eat. The events take place on the dance floor (no, you’re not judged on dancing) in front of the stage in the main Oktoberfest tent, with teams of three people competing for the ultimate prize in sport, The Bavarian Strongman Trophy.

How is it judged?

Teams of three (3) compete across a range of disciplines including nailing, keg rolling and jam doughnut eating. Points are awarded to the top four teams in each discipline, and the team with the most points after all five disciplines have been completed wins the title of “The Bavarian Strongman 2013”.

How do I enter?

To enter a team, please register by 12 midday on Saturday 19
October in the German Connections Tent. May the strongest team win!

The ‘official rules’ bit.

Please note:
– all contestants must be aged 18 years or over
– photo I.D. is mandatory for participants
– teams must be made up of three men.
– contestants must be at the Oktoberfest Tent by 12 midday on the
   day of the competition.
– for safety’s sake we ask that participants do not drink before the competition

This event is proudly sponsored by the German Sausage Hut and the King of Cakes German Bakery.

NEW in 2013! Beardmeister
competition

Day: Friday 18 Oktober
Time: 6:00pm
Place: Oktoberfest Tent

The inaugural Beardmeister competition will separate
the boys from the men, the beards from the
moustaches, as facial hair connoisseurs can enjoy the best of what South-East Queensland has to offer. Organised by the Beard Alliance and its Gold Coast Facial Hair club, this follows a long tradition of beard and moustache appreciation and rivalry in Germany and the European Alpine regions. Be there to experience this, the beginning of what is expected to become an iconic annual hair event.

How is it judged?

Beard and moustache experts from the Gold Coast Facial Hair Club will judge each competitor in the three internationally-defined categories. Audiences have their say in voting for their ‘festival favourite’ and an overall Grand Champion will then be judged. This is serious beard/moustache stuff!

Natural Moustache: A category for purists. This focusses on moustaches au naturel. Styled, yes, but no fancy gels or the like in sight!

Freestyle: Letting their creative and fashion flair run wild, these competitors may use what it takes to style and gel their beards/moustaches into amazing works of facial art.

Natural Full Beard: Similar to Moustaches, however this is the ultimate competition for lovers of facial hair – beards integrated with moustaches, grown and tenderly nurtured to perfection.

What do I get?

Finalists will receive acclaim beyond their wildest dreams, prizes sponsored from Gold Coast Facial Hair Club and a perpetual Trophy for the Grand Champion – something the winner will tell their children and grandchildren about in years to come.

How do I enter?

To enter, please register by emailing the category you want to compete in as well as a photo of yourself to beardalliance@gmail.com. May the best beard win!

The ‘official rules’ bit.

Please note, all contestants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age on the day of competition
– agree to the Oktoberfest Brisbane Terms and Conditions of Entry which can be found here
- be at the side of the main stage in the Oktoberfest Tent at 5:30PM on 18/10/2013 to confirm your registration
