Welcome to the authentic taste of Bavarian life.
Willkommen to Oktoberfest Brisbane 2013. In this, our sixth year, and the 203rd anniversary of the original Oktoberfest in Munich, we’ve already been nominated as one of the Top 10 Oktoberfest’s around the world. To celebrate, we’re planning to make this year’s Oktoberfest the best one yet. Over two weekends in October, you’ll have the chance to sample the absolute finest in German food, to taste hand-crafted beers made from 200 year old recipes, to enjoy traditional music and entertainment, to learn more about Bavarian culture and history, and to generally get in on plenty of fun for the whole family.
To you, to your friends and family, we warmly invite you to share in one of the oldest and most loved festival traditions in the world.
Willkommen to Oktoberfest Brisbane.
A very traditional ‘family affair’.
Many people think that Oktoberfest Brisbane is run by a large
corporation, but this perception couldn’t be further from the truth.
It is, in fact, run by the two Australian-German families of Reimer
Moeller and Boris Zoulek, their very dedicated and understanding
partners, and a host of friends and family members. Between them,
they build, design and organise every single aspect of a festival that
today caters to over 30,000 guests. So when they say it’s an ‘event
for the whole family’, they really mean it.
Australia’s largest and most authentic Oktoberfest.
Being named one of the Top 10 Oktoberfests outside of Germany is a big honour not just for the organisers, but the city of Brisbane too. The cornerstone of this success can be summed up in one word: authenticity.
A traditional Bavarian village atmosphere
For two weekends in October (or should that be Oktober?), the RNA is faithfully transformed into the bustling, warm, welcoming celebration that is Oktoberfest. If you were to stand in the middle of our little ‘village’ and drink in the sights and sounds and smells, to hear the laughter and camaraderie, you could easily be forgiven for imagining yourself 10,000 miles away.
Some ‘very German’ attention to detail
You’ll be amazed at the level of detail we go to, to make you feel ‘right at home’ in Bavaria. The central marketplace boasts a German Maypole centrepiece in Bavarian colours, with wine barrels as bistro tables, surrounded by individual stalls. In the main tent you’ll find traditional wooden flooring, and ceiling wreaths and bunting that reflects exactly what you’d find in Munich. And it’s here you’ll find entertainment including traditional dancers, bell-ringers, and of course, our renowned yodeller, Heidi. The Biergarten conjures the traditional atmosphere with traditional wooden tables and benches on the grass, grand old trees with fairy lights at night, and the sounds of a traditional Bavarian Oktoberfest Band flown all the way from Munich. Entrants in the Miss Oktoberfest Competition are required to milk real ‘training’ udders (from, you guessed it, Germany), and the fortunate fellows who try their luck in the Bavarian Strongman Competition will have to polish up on their ‘keg rolling’ skills. And of course, there’s the sumptuous array of traditional German foods and Oktoberfest Brisbane’s very own specially brewed beers from one of Bavaria’s oldest and most revered breweries.
‘Is that all?’ you ask. Well, actually, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. To discover all the reasons why we’re one of the Top 10 Oktoberfests in the world, you’ll just have to experience it for yourself.
